Milford Dentist Lists Three Things You Can Expect from a Dental Implant Restoration

If you have lost a tooth, you have probably put in a lot of time to researching tooth-replacement methods. Among those methods, you probably came across dental implants. Often called the “gold standard” of tooth replacement, dental implants are very popular for their many benefits. To learn more about dental implant restorations, read the list below from your Milford dentist, Dr. Mitchell I. Quintner.

What You Can Expect From a Dental Implant Restoration

  1. A stable new tooth that feels secure. Dental implants are unlike many other tooth-replacement methods because they use the jawbone to provide stability for the prosthetic tooth. They do so by integrating with the jawbone itself after the implant is surgically placed. Because dental implants are able to anchor down prosthetic teeth, the restorations they provide are noted for their stability. They also tend to feel more like natural teeth because the implant acts like a tooth’s root.
  2. An initial exam to determine your candidacy. In order for a dental implant to be successful, there must be enough quality bone available in the jaw to support it. Thus, your Milford implant dentist, Dr. Quintner, will take scans of your mouth so that he can determine whether or not you are a good candidate to receive a dental implant. If it turns out that the jaw will not support a dental implant, bone grafting may be able to provide the necessary bone tissue.
  3. A recovery period following the placement of the dental implant. Typically, when a dental implant is placed, time must pass to allow the implant to fuse with the jawbone. This process is known as osseointegration, and it can take between three and six months. There are exceptions to this time frame, however. In certain situations, patients can receive their new implant-supported teeth in a single day, allowing them to leave their dental visits with brand new smiles.
