Milford Dentist Wants to Free You From Denture Discomfort

There is no doubt that a set of dentures are very welcome to many people. Having a mouth full of teeth means that denture wearers are able to enjoy social activity without embarrassment, and can eat all the foods that those with natural teeth are able to enjoy. There can be significant drawbacks, however, because conventional dentures can cause great discomfort to the wearer. Your Milford implant dentist, Dr. Mitchell I. Quintner, discusses the options he can give you to banish denture discomfort forever.

The Drawbacks of Dentures

Unfortunately, no matter how expertly and snugly a new set of dentures fits at first, sooner or later, it will become loose. That is because, with no permanent tooth anchoring down the gumline, the gum tissue will recede back over time. This can mean that a set of dentures that fit perfectly a few months earlier will now be too big for the mouth. The loose dentures will slip all around the mouth, rubbing the parts where the prosthetic comes in contact with the surface raw. The only relief from the pain that this friction causes is to remove the dentures completely. That means that, for millions of people, that expensive set of dentures is only put on at mealtimes and during social situations. The dentist will usually be happy to adjust the dentures in order for them to fit the patient’s new mouth, but at some point, the dentures will become loose again.

Permanent Implants

If you are tired of having to wear loose, uncomfortable dentures, you might just be a candidate for permanent dental implants. Implants look, act, and feel just like natural teeth. There will be no need to have to deal with denture cream and no need to have to soak dentures overnight. In addition, implants can improve your overall oral health. The dental implant procedure requires very little discomfort, and can often be completed in only one visit. If you are interested in implants, our office will be happy to do a thorough examination to make sure you are a candidate.
