When brushing your child’s teeth, soak the small-bristled toothbrush in warm water and use only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. Gently clean every available surface (the front, back, and biting surfaces) of each tooth using small circular motions.

As your child grows older, fluoride treatment can help strengthen his or her teeth against tooth decay. Fluoride alters the molecular structure of teeth to make them more resistant to the bacteria-produced acid responsible for tooth decay.
