Milford Dentist: Implants Can Secure Your Crowns and Bridges

The most secure method for tooth replacement is the dental implant. An implant will not only replace a missing tooth, but will keep the jawbone stimulated to deter degeneration. Depending on how many teeth need to be replaced and where the teeth are located, patients may need a singular crown or a bridge, both of which can be permanently secured with implants. Your Milford implant dentist, Dr. Mitchell I. Quintner, talks about why securing your crowns and bridges with implants is a wise decision.

Crowns

A dental crown on top of an implant is an ideal way to replace a single missing tooth. After the implant rod has been placed and the bone fuses with it, the patient will return for a crown fitting. Your Milford implant dentist only uses all-ceramic crowns. These crowns are very strong and will blend with your natural teeth. They will comfortably and effectively perform all dental functions, including biting and chewing. Dr. Quintner and our staff will often use CEREC to craft a ceramic crown. This cutting-edge technology allows us to design, fabricate, and secure a crown in a single visit—and you won’t have to wear a temporary crown.

Bridges

If two or more teeth in a row need to be replaced, an implant-supported dental bridge might be recommended. For a bridge, two implant rods will be placed in the outermost empty sockets. Once the implants have had time to heal and fuse to the bone, we will secure a fixed bridge. All-porcelain crowns will be placed atop the rods, and porcelain pontics will make up the bridge that replace the missing teeth. Once placed, the bridge will be indistinguishable from your natural teeth and you will enjoy totally comfortable dental function.

Advantages

An implanted crown or bridge will be fixed, or permanently secured, in your mouth. There is no need to worry about special cleaning and maintenance. Missing teeth can allow serious damage to jawbone density, since the bone no longer receives necessary nutrients. A dental implant, however, will replicate the missing tooth, attract nutritious minerals and allow the jawbone to stay healthy.
