Will teeth whitening remove every stain type from teeth?
No. Teeth whitening is meant to remove only extrinsic stains from teeth. Extrinsic stains include those created by dark pigments such as the ones found in soda, coffee, tea, and blueberries. However, teeth whitening treatment is not meant to take on intrinsic stains (stains that exist deep inside of teeth). The trouble with these stains is that they are out of the reach of the whitening agents used by teeth whitening treatment. Thus, if your teeth are discolored by intrinsic stains, porcelain veneers offer a better option as they will mask the stains by creating a new and stain-free smile.
What are my options for a chipped tooth?
You actually have several options. You can opt for dental bonding, a procedure which applies a composite resin to the tooth to alter its shape and repair the damage. The resin is durable and typically lasts about five years. If the damage is more extensive, you may be better off with a dental crown, which will fit over the top of your damaged tooth, strengthening it and preventing further damage. Finally, if multiple teeth are damaged, you can choose to transform your smile quickly with porcelain veneers.
