3-D X-Ray Imaging Technology

Thanks to the efforts of the Connecticut State Dental Association, as of October 1, 2010 the first date available in Connecticut, the doctors and staff at Sensitive Care will join their colleagues in medicine in the use of 3-D X-ray imaging technology.  As the first office in New Haven County, and second in the state to have a Galileos Cone Beam CT scanner, the Doctors at Sensitive Care are excited about the benefits this cutting edge technology will bring to their patients.

Like a medical CT scan, this technology brings the third dimension to dental X-rays and allows dentists to rotate the image, view cross sections of teeth and the jaws, and even perform virtual surgery. The Galileos CBCT has the lowest radiation dose available, yet still delivers a high quality accurate image with resolution comparable to a medical CT scanner, commonly used in hospitals. The radiation dose is approximately half of what a patient is typically exposed to during a comprehensive dental x-ray examination.

Integrating with the Cerec CAD/CAM technology already offered to Sensitive Care patients, the Galileos CBCT system will allow Dr. Mitchell Quintner and his team to plan and perform computer guided dental implant surgery. This reduces traditional implant surgery from a 90 minute procedure to a 15 minute procedure without stitches or bleeding, and provides for improved accuracy and reduced healing time. Additionally, this technology is extremely useful as a pre-screening tool for removal of third molars, TMJ disorders, bone grafting procedures, undiagnosed pathology and trauma and for common dental surgeries like root canal therapy, or gum surgery.

Dr. Quintner and his team have taken an important step by utilizing the best technology dentistry has to offer in order to provide the best care possible. When asked why he felt it necessary to take this enormous step toward the future of digital dentistry, he replied, “It was just the next logical step. After the CSDA cleared the way, we were eager to get started utilizing this powerful new technology as soon as possible.”
