Missing Teeth? Take Our Partial Dentures Quiz

If you are missing one or more non-adjacent teeth, you may be considering partial dentures at our Milford dental practice. By replacing your teeth with lifelike synthetic teeth, you can improve your appearance and, even more significantly, protect your dental health for years to come. Before you receive your partial dentures, however, you should have a thorough understanding of the procedure. Take our partial dentures quiz to test your knowledge and find out what type of partial dentures may be right for you.

The Quiz

  1. How do partial dentures protect your oral health?
  2. True or False: At Sensitive Care Dentistry, we offer implant supported partial dentures.
  3. How do implant-supported dentures work?
  4. What are the advantages of implants over traditional partial dentures?

Check Your Answers

  1. Teeth are automatically affected by the surrounding teeth. When you lose just one tooth, all the other teeth will shift to fill in the gap. Over time, all your teeth may become crooked, and you may develop a severely misaligned bite. Teeth do not simply shift to the side; they also adjust to fill in a gap above or below it. In other words, if you lose a lower tooth, the corresponding upper tooth will start growing to fill in the gap underneath. Eventually, the upper tooth will loosen and fall out. By filling in the gap left by missing teeth, partial dentures keep your other teeth from shifting and preserve your healthy dental structure.
  2. True. Thanks to our highly skilled dentists and advanced imaging technology, we proudly offer implant-supported partial dentures to replace your missing teeth.
  3.  At your first consultation, your dentist will take detailed images of your teeth, using our Cone Beam CT scans. Once the dentist determines the best location for your implants, he will surgically embed biocompatible implant posts in your gums. Your tissue will then heal around these posts, integrating them into the structure of your mouth. When the tissue has fully healed, your dentist will attach a metal framework to the top of the implant posts. Your new, synthetic teeth will attach to this framework.
  4. Implant-supported partial dentures have cosmetic and health-related benefits. Traditional partial dentures attach to your teeth with metal clasps. Though the clasps are quite small, they are still visible. Implant-supported dentures, on the other hand, are virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth. Implants also offer a more secure fit than traditional dentures, which can slip out of place when you are talking or eating. In contrast, if you choose implant-supported dentures, you will be able to speak more clearly, and you will have to make few dietary adjustments. Finally, implants protect the health and structure of your jawbone. When you are missing teeth, your jawbone will begin to shrink over time. Because implants replace the dental root, as well as the tooth, they can actually promote regeneration of lost jawbone cells.
