Stabilize Your Dentures with Your Milford Dentist

Traditional dentures replace the entire mouth’s set of teeth. Unfortunately, dentures can jostle in the mouth and fall out while speaking or eating, making some denture wearers feel less confident. Securing dentures demands adhesive that adds more to the cleaning process. However, alternatives for replacing several missing teeth with traditional dentures exist. If you need a new set of teeth, consider implant dentures. In this article, Milford implant dentist Dr. Mitchell Quintner explores implant dentures.

What are Implant Dentures?

While traditional dentures require a putty-like substance to keep them in place, implant dentures securely snap onto anchor points. Implant dentures may not be for all patients who lost teeth, however. Jawbone tissue must be strong for the implants to take hold, so if patients wait too long to replace missing teeth and lose bone density in the jaw, implant dentures will not work. The dentures themselves fit onto implants, securely snapping in place. Wearers should remove dentures nightly to clean them, though they require no adhesive.

Are Implant Dentures Stable?

Yes! Implant dentures work like normal teeth because they do not move like traditional dentures can. Since more jawbone typically comprises the front of the jaw, the dentist will most likely implant small titanium rods in empty tooth sockets there. After osseointegration, when jawbone bonds to the post, Dr. Quinter will place a cap over the post. The cap, or crown, will match the color of your teeth and fit your bite. You will need at least one other implant to make your dentures as secure as possible. Then, your row of replacement teeth will have posts to which to firmly attach.
